Free Vintage Knitting Patterns

Knitting patterns from the Victoria and Albert Museum. There are patterns from the 1940's, for dolls and this free pattern from Rowan . This free knitting pattern from Rowan is a wonderful sleeveless shrug, flatteringly shaped with the wide rib collar.

This off the shoulder top is my favorite. Knit in 3 pieces the shoulder piece is called the Bertha and is knit in the round. I wanted this shape to use for the shoulders of a cotton shift rather than the knit top pieces. The pattern is in the Women's section as is a cute popcorn bolero.
Since needle sizes have changed over time the V&A also offers a needle size conversion chart at the bottom of the 1940's pattern page

  1. Is the shoulder piece doubled and folded over or single layer?
